‘Perseid Meteor Shower’ – This is a fine art card of an original felting inspired by a beautiful meteor shower of shooting starts that i saw one August in Cornwall. This card also shows the constellation Cassiopeia and the Milky Way.
I thought of Prospero’s beautiful speech when making this felting, in The Tempest by Shakespeare and the lines:
‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on,
and our little life is rounded with a sleep’
are printed on the back of the card.
The card measures 15 x15cms and is printed on 100% recycled Cocoon 350g (in cellophane with envelope).
The original was created firstly with wet-felted base layers and then further layers of needle-felting and fibres were added for depth and texture. Finally, I embellished with stitching and tiny beads.
It’s so wonderful that the giclée process retains excellent details of the original. Many customers in the galleries where I sell my work have commented that the prints look 3D and very touchable, as though you could feel the fibres and even smell the coconut gorse bush 🙂
**Gift wrapping service also available on request for a small extra fee **
Excellent quality giclee prints also available of this piece.
*Created in a smoke-free home.

Giclée printing is a process that uses fade-resistant, archival inks and archival substrates to print on large format printers. Giclée printing is often used by artists to make reproductions of their original artwork for resale, while preserving the original.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp’d tow’rs, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
The Tempest Act 4, scene 1, 148–158
Living on the wild and beautiful peninsula of West Penwith in Cornwall, UK, surrounded by the sea, I am constantly inspired by the seasons, the weather, the land and seascapes…tiny details of colour, shadows and patterns in rocks, plants, clouds and the many birds and wildlife. I am also fascinated by the energy of the landscape and its effect on the senses.
I’ve been teaching English Literature for 14 years but have recently hoped very much to dedicate more time to exploring and developing my artwork. I love to combine poetry with my work and am often inspired by lines in poetry and novels and the ‘colour’ of words as well as the rhythms, resonance and shapes of certain words together. I also like to ‘paint’ conversations and their movement and energies.
I was drawn to felting from knitting and crochet and practising with flowers, to experimenting with landscapes and sketching and love the way they grow, evolve and develop by an almost transformative magic. The colours and effects can be surprising and the layering of wet-felting and needle-felting, free from rules, can create very subtle depths. Making mistakes often results in happy accidents and the process for me is such a heartfelt one too and always one of celebration.
I am learning about ethical fleeces, different fibres and textures and their effects and also combining unusual embellishments, as well as beads, sequins, wire and stitching. In looking forward to further exploration and new paths, my dream would be to develop my work into a full-time business. I have gained so much confidence with three local exhibitions, and with selling original work, cards and prints on a regular basis.
My work can currently be seen at Morvah Schoolhouse Gallery, near Zennor, Cornwall, The Blue Bramble Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall and Strandline Gallery, Marazion, Cornwall.
