An old, well-preserved barn at a local farm inspired this country art quilt. It represents a summer day with greens in the trees and grasses, birds on a wire and a dilapidated fence taking it’s last stand. I created this art quilt in my home studio.
This art quilt began by using Inktense Colored Pencils and Textile Medium on 100% PFD cotton fabric to create the barn along with its foundations and roof. Flowing grasses were added with the same technique. Grass green borders on the bottom and summer sky blue borders on the top were added next. Batik fabrics applied with a raw edge applique technique bring details and interest in the trees, grass and fence. Birds perch on a couched wire. Detailed quilting in a variety of threads adds texture to the piece. The border fabrics are repeated in the binding. This fiber art painting is backed with all over printed cotton fabric as shown in the last photo.
