‘Ghibli’ Necklace 19″ Recycled Plastic Chain

This handmade perspex leaf necklace was inspired by Art Deco Bakelite necklaces from the 1920’s. The surface pattern was created using individual leaves. They are collected and pressed, then used to emboss the surface, and like stencils, using my own unique heat fusion process (which I call ‘fossilised plastic’) to create the surface pattern. So each component is individual. I have found the necklaces attract a lot of attention! Made from 100% recycled plastic.

I have been making acrylic contemporary jewellery with wild flower designs since 2005. My inspiration is to share what has cheered me up and got me through the tough times. It all started at a difficult period of my life when I was going through a tough time. In order to cope with it I started try to empty my head of everything and just be in the moment. I become aware of what was around me. Listen to the sounds and notice where I was. I became enormously comforted by how beautiful the world is. So I started working with plants leaves and flowers and developed this method of capturing the detail of the plants . I wanted to share this with people who wear my jewellery.
