Fall harvest in Michigan provided inspiration for this work. I hoped to capture colorful pumpkins, contrasting array of flowers, rugged texture of the old barn in a working farm setting. This expresses the beauty of everyday life where I live.
This art quilt has been exhibited at both juried International Quilt Association and American Quilter’s Society shows. It won the VIEWER’S CHOICE AWARD at the Des Moines AQS show.
Titled “Harvest Time on M-22”, this work includes a large variety of quilting techniques. The background was created with tiny bits of confetti cut fabrics layered to create depth and distance. Raw edge applique forms the barn and out buildings. Fabric painting added shadows and realism to the quilt. A couching technique holds the wagon wheel to the barn. Take note of the precise detail of corded piping by border which adds emphasis to the hand painted pumpkins in the foreground. Exquisite workmanship and quilting makes this a real standout.View the last three photos to see some of the steps involved in the process.
