Art quilt depicts the South Shore in the little Lake Michigan Village of Arcadia were we make our home. The solitude found on this public beach is reflected in the quiet sky and water at sunset. Using my Lake Michigan sunset photos, I created this art quilt in my home studio.
Silk Sari Ribbon and colorful batiks were torn or cut into thin strips then ‘couched’ on lovely ‘scrap’ of hand dyed silk to create the sky of this work. The pier, land and beach were made with a confetti art quilt technique. The lighthouse was applied with a raw edge applique method while novelty fabrics and metallic threads add a sparkle to water and sky. Ribbon trim accents the red lighthouse bars. Novelty threads were used during quilting to add depth and dimension.
Approximately 33 X 42 inches or 84 X 106 cm (insert a dowel & hang with provided hanging pocket)
Created in my smoke-free, pet free home studio.
